Instrument transformers are designed to transform voltage or current from the high values in the transmission and distribution systems to the low values that can be utilized by low voltage devices.
In the Modern Grid, consumers will be an integral part of the electric system. They will help balance supply and demand and ensure reliability by modifying the way they use and purchase electricity. These modifications will come as a result of consumers having choices that will motivate different purchasing patterns and behaviors.
The next 10 to 15 years will see major changes - perhaps even classified as upheavals by future historians - in the distribution of electricity to businesses and households throughout the United States.
