Telvent (Nasdaq: TLVT), the IT company for a sustainable and secure world, has been chosen to upgrade the control and monitoring system at Alcoa-Yadkin Power Generating Division with an OASyS DNA electric supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) solution. The Telvent system was selected to improve operational control of remote generation facilities and provide security of critical operating information.

Wartsila North American Inc - April 29, 2008
Wärtsilä has signed an operations and maintenance (O&M) contract with QIT Madagascar Minerals S.A (QMM), part of the Rio Tinto group, for its 23.8 MWe power plant. The power plant is located at the company’s ilmenite mineral sands mine at Fort Dauphin, in south-eastern Madagascar.

Telvent Miner & Miner - April 28, 2008
DTE Energy Company (DTE) is in production with Designer, a GIS-based design solution from Telvent Miner & Miner (TM&M). The implementation of Designer, which includes embedded ArcFM™ tools for asset and facilities management, will assist DTE in managing the design process for delivering electric and gas service to their customers.
DTE Energy went into production with Designer and ArcFM in April 2007. The goal now is to expand their training and use of a centralized asset management model throughout the distribution side of the organization to improve overall customer support and continue to drive down costs.

The software purchasing community requires interoperable products in their networks, value and supply chains that install easily to begin intercommunicating with other like products in a straight forward manner. This frequently is not the case even with products that call themselves interoperable, and this may costs the organization hundreds of thousands of dollars in additional IT expense.
Spending millions of dollars on business resiliency and reliability is a good start, especially when you know your organization can lose a massive amount of money if downtime occurred precisely at the right processing moment. Reliability and facility infrastructure health is not guaranteed simply by investing in and installing new equipment.
In the face of decreased capital spending and lower profits, it is not surprising that energy and utility managers are looking to technology and automation, including enterprise asset management (EAM) applications, for their salvation. Unfortunately, the business applications chosen are only tools, and do not guarantee success.
